Windy weather in the mountains is making fire conditions bad, and the smoke continues to keep air quality for most of our area unhealthy at best. Thankfully there will be improvement in both air quality and wind soon. The Red Flag Warning continues for the Cascades and Sierra through late tonight. There will still be some gusty mountain wind on Wednesday, though. Tonight will be hazy and smoky with clear sky above, but the haze and smoke will begin to retreat from south to north in the valley. Lows will range from the 30s and 40s in the mountains to the 50s and 60s in the valley and foothills. Wednesday will be bright and cooler with less smoke. Highs will range from the 70s and 80s in the mountains to near 90 in the valley.A flat ridge of high pressure will begin building toward California from the Desert Southwest late this week through the weekend. This will allow enough of a shift in our wind that the valley air quality should stay better than it has been the last week or so. There will still be haze and smoke, but it won’t be as dangerous. There will still be plenty of smoke around the fires themselves in the mountains. We can expect a gradual warming trend from below average to above average through the weekend, with a few clouds approaching by Labor Day. We still have no good chance of rain. Valley lows will remain in the seasonable upper 50s and 60s, while valley highs will rise from the upper 80s and lower 90s to the upper 90s to near 100.
