Labor Secretary Walsh: “It’s Not A Mandate, It’s A Vaccine-Or-Testing” | Video [Video]

Labor Secretary Marty Walsh discusses the October jobs report with Stuart Varney on FOX Business Network, saying that the low labor participation rate is a “big concern” but a Covid-19 vaccine mandate would help people feel comfortable returning to the workforce. MARTY WALSH, LABOR SECRETARY: Where mandates have actually gone into play in companies a lot of people eventually get the vaccine. They’re not leaving the job market. I don’t think 37 percent of the populous that’s saying that they’re not going to get vaccinated or tested they’re going to leave the job market. I think what we have to do is just continue to explain what it is that we’re doing here with this emergency temporary standard. Lots of companies are welcoming it. Some people have concerns about it. And we’re answering any questions that businesses have here at the Department of Labor to move forward. It is about getting back to where we were in our economy. And making sure that workplaces are safe for people to go into…VARNEY: Mr. Secretary, are you prepared to accept the pain of the vaccine mandate? When you lay down the law and you say you got to get vaccinated, X percentage of the workforce walks away from the job. That’s pain. Are you prepared to accept that? WALSH: Yes, it’s not a mandate number one. And it’s a – it’s a test – it’s a vaccine or testing. So we’re a little different than what we’re seeing around the country, number one. And number two, where mandates have actually gone into play in companies a lot of people eventually get the vaccine. It is about – it’s about getting back to where we were in our economy. And that’s – and making sure that workplaces are safe for people to go into.
